Had some limited success with a random wire antenna and listening to some HF bands from my in-town "shack" a few days ago, so though I'd take it on the road and see what I could pick up in the mountains away from rf interference.
Let's just say, the experiment flopped (this time). I just need to keep researching, tweaking, and testing. I'm trying to learn as much as possible so that when I pass my General and have transmit privileges, I'll be more ready for it. Well.. still need an actual transceiver of course.
Here I am using CubicSDR with RTL-SDR and Nooelec "Ham It UP" on my Ubuntu Linux laptop.
